[...a]gain in the manner of a physician, He healed divinely, which the assembly of the blind saw not. The new [and] little flock was scattered, for the Good Shepherd was struck. Peter alone followed behind; the Rock was shaken by a maidservant. The cock crowed as foretold; the Lord looked upon Peter. He remembered the word [and] wept bitterly; from his fall he arose again. [O You who] granted [mercy] unto the Rock of the Church, whom You preserved from flowing away [into ruin], and raised up from stumbling on account of the weeping of his heart: raise me up also, O Lord, together with him from the fall of one who slips, granting copious tears unto my eyes, and water like the sea unto my head. O [wonder!], willingly [they seized] the Unbindable One, binding the hands of the Deliverer; they led [Him] to the palace of Caiaphas and Annas. The servant struck that face from which the Seraph veils [itself] with wings, discharging spit from a defiled mouth upon Him who with His spit caused light to dawn for the blind man.
