[upon the] sons of men, to see if there be any that is wise, that seeketh God. They have all turned aside together and become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not even one. Shall they not know, all who work iniquity, who devour my people as food of bread, and have not called upon God?

For there was no change for them, and they feared not God. *Alēim, aluia, āmmlēm, aluia.* [RUBRIC: Musical chant notation.] He stretched forth his hand to repay them, and they profaned his covenant [lit. laws]. They were divided by the wrath of his countenance, and [war] reached into their [lit. his] hearts. Their words were smoother than oil, yet they were [as] darts. Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain [lit. feed] thee; and he shall not suffer the righteous to be shaken forever. But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days—
