With grievous afflictions my soul is tormented; I have no rest. I am found a debtor to the debts of transgressions, overcome by sins: Lord, have mercy. I strive to repent, [yet] I grow fervent again, inflamed by the fire of sins. I was called “Rabbi,” [yet] I am named “Raca” by my vulgar conduct: Lord, have mercy. By the love of lust [and] by fierce anger my heart is pierced. By the wounds of transgressions my spirit is grieved; perplexed I wander about: Lord, have mercy. Evil [powers] have lorded over me; they drove [me] into exile from the Sovereign’s embrace. To the good Master, to the festive voice, I did not lend ear: Lord, have mercy. The desire of evil things, with desirable countenance, has caused my eyes to ache. By the assault of each of the crowded passions my soul is cast down: Lord, have mercy. Hasten, O my soul, to flee from evil [and] to long for good things. Know that always near to thee has come the sleep of death, [and] the scrutinizing Judge: Lord, have mercy. Through the intercession of the Holy Mother of God (*Astuacacin* [God-bearer]), remember, O Lord, and have mercy.
