There was a dog of a *gzir* [village bailiff] in the village, He apostatized [from] the luminous Armenian faith, He went [and] said to the Kurdish *Paron*: “A cross has arisen for the Armenian nation, The name given to the cross [is] Karos; By night it gives light over the temple, By day it casts cool shade over the world. That is not fitting for the Armenian nation, That is fitting for your *divan* [court], [As] a gem and jewel for your *khanum* [lady], By day to cast cool shade over your fortress, By night to give light unto your city.” I shall be a servant to the Karos cross! The mind of the Kurdish *Paron* was swayed, He arose [and] stood upon the rampart, He called Mahmad, he called Ali, [And] said: “A cross has arisen for the Armenian nation, Go, bring the Karos cross. That is not fitting for the Armenian nation, That is fitting for my *divan*, [As] a gem and jewel for my *khanum*.”
