This first fifty of the *Thousand and One Games* is composed entirely of folk songs, all of which have their own specific melodies and are intended for singing and not for reading. The melody and the refrains supply [any] lack of coherence in the meaning of the strophes. Having at hand a collection of around 25 thousand quatrains, as well as variants of other songs, we have collated the variants of the same songs and taken the forms deemed select in our judgment. If we found an Armenian [word] in place of Turkish words, we kept the Armenian; nevertheless, Turkish words still often remain, especially in the rhymes. Songs numbers 2, 4, 5, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, and 50 are already complete among the people; of these, numbers 5, 46, and 47, as far as we know, are published here for the first time.
