Take one *mskhal* each of finely pounded, good *khashndegh* [marshmallow/wild mallow] and purified sal ammoniac [*anushadr*], half a *mskhal* of sugar or pounded licorice [*matitak*]; grind [them] together and divide into four portions. Give [one] portion to drink each morning and evening with a little water.

Number 65:

Take clean and very fine iron filings (which must not be rusted), two *mskhal*s, sugar, three *mskhal*s; grind [them] together, then mix into it chamomile flower and hot ginger, one *mskhal* each, and pour over it good honey or rose preserves (*muraba*), as much as is needed to make an electuary (*majun*); and cause [the patient] to eat [of it] three times a day, the size of a walnut each time, or one full tea-spoonful each time.

Number 66:

Take one handful of chamomile flowers, and one-fourth of a *k‘ran* of hemlock [or henbane] root, and one spoonful of cherry-tree resin; put [them] into a clean vessel, [and] pour over it six cups of boiled water. When it cools, strain [it], and give [to the patient] one cup twice a day; if thou mixest also a little saffron into it, it will be better.

HEAD: Number 67.

Take three cloves of garlic, crush [them], spread [them] upon a cloth, [and] place [it] upon the navel until a visible redness appears on the spot. After removing [it], rub on fresh and unsalted butter, or cream.

Number 69:

Take two *mskhal*s of saltpeter earth [nitre], [and] one *mskhal* each of sugar and finely pounded aniseed, or dill seed; mix [them] together and give four tea-spoons a day to drink, as is stated in its [proper] place.

Number 68:

Take two *misqal*s of very finely pounded eggshell, or crab’s-eyes [gastroliths], or terra sigillata [lit. earth of wind-borax/niter], [and] one *misqal* each of sugar and dill seed; grind [them] together and give [it] to the wet-nurse to drink four times a day, one small spoonful each [time] with a little water.

Number 69:

Take one handful of *korotnich* or *bartsunnik*, place [it] in a tinned vessel, and pour upon it five cups of boiling water; cover [it], and leave [it] to cool. After straining, give [it to the patient] to drink six times a day, one small cup [*p’njan*] at a time.

Number 70:

Take very finely pounded eggshell, or crab’s eye, or nitre-earth—two *mskhals*; sugar and dill seed, one *mskhal* each. Grind [them] together, and give [it] to the wet-nurse to drink four times a day, one small spoonful each [time] with a little water.

NOTE: * Whatever crumbs a horse leaves underneath [it] while eating hay, they call *krchonk’* [hay-orts]. 16
