Գաղղիական ախտ ընկածը պիտի հրաժարուի թը- թու, կծու, աղի, պարարտ, ծանր և դժուարամարս ուտելիք- ներից, ինչպէս են՝ խոզի միս պինդ խաշած, աղի ձուկը, խա- ւիար և սրանց նմանները : Ուտել կարէ լաւ էփած Հաւ, վառեկ, ոչխարի և տաւարի միս և մանաւանդ կաթը : Բոլո- րովին պիտի հրաժարուի ամէն տեսակ տաքացնող խմիչքից և միայն գարեջուր գործ ածել կարէ, կամ` ձաւարի էփած ջուր: Շատ պիտի զգուշանայ մրսելուց և ցուրտ անձրևային ե- ղանակին տանից չպիտի դուրս գայ. բնակած տունը և իր Հագուստը շատ իստակ պահէ, շաբաթը մէկ անգամ` բաղա- նիս գնայ, կամ` տանը տաք ջրով լեղանայ և իստակ շոր Հագ- նի, և զգուշանայ որ լեղանալուց յետոյ չը մրսի : 159. Եթէ նոր ծնած երեխի կպչի գաղղիական ախտը, էն ժամանակը ծիծ տուողը պիտի գործ ածէ 50, կամ` 57 Հա- մարաւ դեղը և երեխին էլ շուտ շուտ լեղացնելու է տաք ջրով կամ` 58 Համարի դեղով : Եթէ սոյն ախտը ընկնող երեխէն ծծիցը կտրած ըլի, պէտք է նրան խմացնեն օրը չորս անգամ` մէկ մէկ գդալ մեղրով քաղցրացրած դեղ Համարաւ 50 : Եթէ ըլի երեք տարեկան, կամ` աւելի, էն ժամանակը պիտի տան էլի նոյն դեղը, չափը աւելցնելով նրա տարիքին Համեմատ, կամ` 57 Համարաւ դեղը : 140. Գաղղիական ախտի դեղ անելը առանց բժշկի ծանր է քան զմիւս ամէն Հիւանդութիւններինը, ահա պատճառն էս է, որ կարճառօտ գրեցի սրա վրայ և էսքանն էլ նորա Համար, որ- պէս զի էս ախտը ունեցողներից նրանք, որոնք բժշկից Հեռու են կենում, կարողանան Հիւանդութեան սկզբումը մինչևի բժշկի Հանդիպիլն առ ժամանակ օրինաւոր եղանակաւ պահպանել իրանց գլուխը : Բայց ուրտեղ բժիշկ գտնուի, իսկոյն նրան Հարկաւոր է դիմել, ապա թէ ոչ՝ փոքր ժամանակ անց կենալը, կամ` անկանոն դեղ անելը մեծ վնաս կ'պատճառէ: Թէպէտև լաւացած էլ ըլին դրսի խոցերը թեթև դեղերով, այնու ամենայնիւ շատ վախ ունէ, որովհետև կարէ պատահիլ, որ լուս ընկնի քթումը կամ` բգումը : Գաղղիական ախտը ունի էս յատ-

[and if he] also has ulcers broken out in the mouth, they must give [him] Medicine Number 57 to drink.
158. He who is fallen [ill] with the Gallic disease [*syphilis*] must abstain from sour, sharp [*spicy/pungent*], salty, fat, heavy, and indigestible foods, such as: hard-boiled pork, salted fish, caviar, and the like. He may eat well-cooked chicken, pullet, mutton, and beef, and especially milk. He must wholly abstain from all kinds of heating drinks, and may only use beer, or boiled groats-water [*barley/groats broth*]. He must take great care against catching cold, and during cold, rainy weather he must not leave the house; he should keep the house he inhabits and his clothing very clean, go to the bathhouse once a week, or wash himself at home with warm water and put on clean clothes, and beware that after washing he does not catch a cold.
159. If the Gallic disease should afflict a newborn child, then the wet-nurse [*or nursing mother*] must use Medicine Number 50 or 57, and the child also is frequently to be washed with warm water or with Medicine Number 58. If the child afflicted with this disease is weaned, they must make him drink, four times a day, one spoonful each time of Medicine Number 50 sweetened with honey. If he be three years old, or more, then they must give the same medicine, increasing the dose according to his age, or Medicine Number 57.
140. [*160.*] Treating the Gallic disease without a physician is heavier [*more perilous*] than all other diseases; behold, this is the reason that I wrote briefly upon it, and this much only in order that those suffering from this disease who live far from a physician may be able, in the beginning of the disease, to protect themselves in a proper manner for a time until meeting a physician. But wherever a physician may be found, it is necessary to turn to him immediately; otherwise, the passing of a little time or administering remedies irregularly will cause great harm. Although the external ulcers may even be healed by light medicines, nevertheless there is great danger, because it may happen that a perforation [*ulcerative destruction*] occurs in the nose or in the throat.
