23. Երբ մաշի գցելը ուժով է և լիքը, բերանը, որկորը (բողազ) և քիթը չոր, լեզուն խտակ կամ փոքր սպիտակ մաղասով պատած, երեսահարքը և աչքերը կարմրացած, շըն- չառութիւնը դժուար, երբ հազում ըլի չոր, գլուխը պտուտ գալիս և իրան իրան խօսալիս. ջրվէթը գալիս ըլի քիչ և կար- միր, և երբ պատահի, որ մինչևի մութը ջրվէթի վրէն չըլի դուրս գնալիս, էս ժամանակը պէտք է վարուին էսպէս : Ա. Պէտք է խմացնեն Հովացնող բաներ, այսինքն՝ քիչ քացախով, կամ ծորի, կամ լիմոնի, կամ թրթու նռան քամուքսով խառ- նած ջուր, շաքարով կամ լաւ մեղրով քաղցրացրած: Բ. Հի- ւանդութիւնը թեթևացնելու համար պէտք է տան դեղ հա- մարաւ 17, կամ 18. կամ 19: Գ. Եթէ հիւանդը փորումը կապ ըլի, միջոց առ միջոց խմացրու մէ մէկ փնջան լաւ էփած չոր դամոնի (չորացրած դամբուլ) սև ճանճուռի, կամ ալի- բուխարու քամած ջուրը, կամ ութը մսխալ մանանայ մէկ փնջան գոլ ջրով բաց արած, միանգամ : Հիւանդին կարող ես ուտացնել ալիբուխարի, կամ խորոված խնձոր: Եթէ վերոյ յի- շեալ դեղերը չ'բանացնեն փորիցը, պէտք է տաս գրեխ (հոքնայ) Համարաւ 20, կամ 21 դեղով: Եթէ գրեխ տալ չը գիտենան կամ չ'ճարեն, էն ժամանակը կարողեն մատի երկարութենով սրած սապոնի վերայ ձէթ քսել և ետևիցը ներս տալ և թող- նել, մինչև որ լուծէ : Դ. Եթէ էս բոլոր դեղորայքը գործ ա- ծելով ոչինչ օգուտ չ'բերեն և հիւանդութիւնը երկարի մինչի երեք օր, էն ժամանակը պէտք է կռնիցը արիւն թողնեն, (հի- ւանդի կազմուածքին մտիկ տալով մինչև ութսուն մսխալ) և սպասեն մինչևի տասներկու ժամ. եթէ էս արիւնով էլ հի- ւանդութեան նշանները չեն քչանալ և թողած արիւնի երե- սին սպիտակ մէրած մաղաս (մակարդ) կանգնի, էն ժամանա- կը կրկին պէտք է թողնեն արիւն : 21. Շատ է պատահում, որ սաստիկ հիւանդութեան ժա- մանակը հիւանդի մարմնոյ կաշին կոշտանում է, էս ժամա- նակին բարակ շոր, կամ ամպի կտոր տաք ջրումը, կամ քա- ցախումը թաց արա՛ և շուտ շուտ քսէ բոլոր մարմնոյ վրէն, միայն զգուշութենով, որ չ'մրսի, և էլ ոտների տակին կպցրո՛ւ

23. When the pulse beats strong and full; the mouth, gullet (*boghas*), and nose [are] dry; the tongue clean or coated with a slight white film; the visage and eyes reddened; breathing difficult; when the cough is dry; the head spins and [the patient] babbles to himself; urine is scanty and red, and it happens that until nightfall he does not go out to pass urine—at such a time, one must proceed as follows:
A. They must give [him] cooling things to drink, that is, water mixed with a little vinegar, or barberry [juice], or lemon [juice], or the pressed juice of sour pomegranate, sweetened with sugar or good honey.
B. To alleviate the ailment, they must give remedy number 17, or 18, or 19.
C. If the patient is bound in the bowels (constipated), give [him] to drink from time to time one cup (*p'njan*) of the strained water of well-boiled dried damson (*dambul*), black wild plum (*chanchur*), or Bukhara plum (*alibukhari*); or eight *misqal*s of manna dissolved in a cup of lukewarm water, all at once. You may have the patient eat Bukhara plums or baked apples. If the above-mentioned remedies do not open the bowels, you must give a clyster (*huqna*) with remedy number 20 or 21. If they do not know how to administer a clyster or cannot procure [one], they may then rub oil upon a piece of soap sharpened to the length of a finger, insert it from behind, and leave it until it loosens [the bowels].
D. If, after employing all these remedies, they bring no relief and the sickness lingers up to three days, they must then let blood from the arm (up to eighty *misqal*s, according to the patient's constitution) and wait up to twelve hours; if, even with this bloodletting, the symptoms of the disease do not diminish and a white, curdled crust (*makard*) forms upon the surface of the drawn blood, they must then let blood once again.
21. It often happens during severe illness that the skin of the patient's body becomes rough [and dry]; at such a time, moisten a thin cloth or a piece of sponge in warm water or vinegar, and wipe it frequently over the entire body, yet with caution so that he does not catch a chill; and also apply [it] to the soles of the feet...
