...[seve]re, and feels pain throughout the entire body and the head. The urine assumes the color of cinnamon (*darichin*) or brick (*aguṛ*). 5. The fever lasts for several hours, and in the end begins to diminish little by little; the skin softens, and a profuse or moderate sweat comes on. At this time, a drowse (*nəghəzal*, [that is,] falling into a sweet slumber) comes over the patient. 6. When he awakes, he feels none of the symptoms mentioned above, save only a debility (*sust*) of the body. The ague is distinguished from other diseases resembling it, as by the symptoms written above, so also by the urine; for example, when after the fever the urine is reddish in color and a brick-colored sediment (*til*) settles to the bottom. 7. The ague is either quotidian [daily], which comes on mostly in the mornings; or tertian [every other day], which comes on mostly about noontime; or quartan [every two days in between], which comes on once every three days, mostly in the afternoon. 8. If the ague manifests [lit. falls to light] from February until the month of August, it is called the vernal [spring] ague; but that which manifests from August until February is called the autumnal ague. 9.
