1․ Էն հիւանդութիւնը, որ սկսւում է կարճ կամ երկար միջոց դողցնելով ու յետոյ տաքութիւն է տալիս ու մի քանի ժամից հովանում է, ու էլի կրկին իր ժամանակին դողցնում, ասուում է դող։ 2․ Քիչ կը գտնուին էնպիսի մարդիկ, ի՞նչ տեսակ կազ– մուածքի տէր էլ ըլին, որոնք դող ունեցած չըլին, վասնորոյ ամէնքին յայտնի է, թէ ի՞նչ տեսակ հիւանդութիւն է սա։ 3․ Դողը գալիս հիւանդը զգում է բոլոր անդամների թուլութիւն, յօրանջում է, կոտրատւում, մրսում, ակռէ– քին խփում․ դողը բռնելիս սիրտը նեղանում է, կորցնում է ա– խորժակը (իշտահ) և խառնում սիրտը երբեմն էլ բերանիցը գցում է դեղին մաղձ․ ոտների և ձեռների գոյնը (ռանգը) գը– նում է և ղնգները կապտանում, մաջէն թոյլ է գցում և շունչ քաշելը դժուարանում, ծարաւութիւնը սաստկանում և ջրչէթի գոյնը փոխուում է։ 4․ Դողցնելից յետոյ գալիս է տաքութիւն, որ և հետ զհետէ աւելանալով, երբեմն էլ էնքան սաստկանում է, որ հի– ւանդի բոլոր մարմինը էրուում է և վառուում ինչպէս թոնդ– րումը․ միայն էս միջոցին աւելի հեշտանում է շունչ քաշելը, քան թէ դողացնելումը․ սրտնեղութիւնը պակասում է և բա– զուկը (մաջէն) գցում շուտ շուտ և լիք լիք, ծարաւումն սաս–

1. That disease which begins with shivering for a shorter or longer duration, and then brings on heat, and cools off after a few hours, and then shivers again at its appointed time, is called the ague [*dōgh*]. 2. Few men are to be found, of whatever constitution they may be, who have not had the ague; wherefore it is known to all what sort of disease this is. 3. When the ague comes on, the patient feels a weakness in all [his] limbs, yawns, stretches, feels chilled, his teeth chatter; when the chill seizes [him], he feels oppression of the chest, loses [his] appetite (*ishtah*), and feels nauseated, sometimes even throwing up yellow bile from the mouth; the color (*rang*) of the feet and hands departs and the fingernails turn blue, the pulse [*majēn*] beats weakly and breathing becomes difficult, thirst increases, and the color of the urine changes. 4. After the shivering comes the heat, which, gradually increasing, sometimes becomes so severe that the patient’s whole body is scorched and burns as if in a *t‘ondir* [tonir]; only at this juncture does breathing become easier than during the shivering; the oppression of the chest lessens, and the pulse (*majēn*) beats fast and full, thirst [becomes] seve-
