սաստիկ լուծող և բերանիցը փսխեցնող դեղեր կամ երբ ա- րիւն է թողնում` որևիցէ տեղից : Էս դեղերը բժշկներն էլ մեծ զգուշութէնով են տալիս Հիւանդին : Եթէ Հարկաւոր Համարուի, վերոյ յիշեալ դեղերու փոխանակ կարողեն գործ ա- ծել Հետևեալ անվնաս դեղերը՝ փորակապութեան ժամանակը՝ էփած սև ճանճուռի ջուրը երկու մեծ փնջան երեկոյեան քը- նելուց առաջ կամ առաւօտը անօթի կամ ութ մսխալ բա- րակ ծէծած սպիտակ գինու աղ ջրով խառնած կամ Հինգ մսխալ բարակ ծեծած գլաուբերեան աղ կամ ութ մսխալ մա- նանայ ջրումը բացարած կամ 6 և 7 կամ 8 Համար դեղերը : Յիշեալ դեղերը ունին զօրութիւն թեթև փորից լուծելու և տաքութիւնը Հովացնելու : Արիւն թողնելը առանց բժշկի խորՀուրդ չեմ տալ, բայց թէ որ այնպիսի դիպուածներ պատաՀին, որ իսկոյն պաՀանջում ըլին արիւն թողնելը՝ էն ժա- մանակն էլ պէտք է չափսով թողնել կամ մի քանի տզրուկ կըպ- ցնել Հիւանդի բնութեանը յարմար : 25. Չպէտք է մեռելը շուտ թաղել. մանաւանդ թէ որ մաՀը յառաջ է էկել կայծակի տալուցը, կաթուածքիցը, արբենա- լուցը, խեղդուելուցը, ցրտի տանելուց, երկար Հիւանդութէնից, սևամաղցոտութէնից, թուլանալուց, ածուխի Հոտից և ուրիշ սրանց նման պատճառներից, նոյնպէս և երկուՀոգսութէնից: Շուտ թաղելու վնասը փորձով Հաստատուած է Հին և նոր ժամանակներումս, որ և գրած է (*) բժշկական Հին և նոր պատմութեանց մէջ այսինքն՝ Ասկղիպիադի, Դեմոկրաղի, Պը- լինիոսի և Էսկուլապի: Երբեմն թաղել են թուլացածները մե- ռեալ կարծելով և պատաՀմունքով երբ նոր թաղածների Հա- մար գերեզմանը բաց են արել տեսել են, որ յետ են եկել և գջլ- տել են ակռքով պռունգը, ձեռքերը և ոմանք էլ բերանքսի վար են էլէլ շուռ էկած. էստոնք յայտնի Հաստատումեն, որ յի- շեալ անձերը մեռեալ Համարուել են և իսկոյն թաղուել, բայց յետ են եկել թաղելուց յետոյ, և որովՀետև չեն կարողացել

...violent purgative and emetic medicines, or when blood is let from any place. Even physicians administer these medicines to the patient with great caution. If it be deemed necessary, instead of the above-mentioned medicines, the following harmless remedies may be used in times of constipation: two large cups of boiled black beetroot [or prune/prunella] decoction in the evening before sleeping, or in the morning on an empty stomach; or eight *miskhal*s of finely pounded white cream of tartar [wine-salt] mixed with water; or five *miskhal*s of finely pounded Glauber’s salt; or eight *miskhal*s of manna dissolved in water; or the medicines [numbered] 6, 7, or 8. The aforementioned remedies possess the virtue of mildly loosening the bowels and cooling the heat [of the body]. I do not advise bloodletting without a physician; but if such cases should arise as instantly demand the letting of blood, even then it must be let in moderation, or a few leeches applied according to the constitution of the patient.
25. The dead must not be buried hastily, especially if death hath proceeded from a stroke of lightning, apoplexy, drunkenness, drowning, being overcome with cold, a protracted illness, melancholia, swooning [or sudden exhaustion], the fumes of charcoal, and other such-like causes, as well as from pregnancy [or deep grief]. The danger of hasty burial is confirmed by experience in ancient and modern times, as is also written (*) in ancient and modern medical histories—that is to say, of Asclepiades, Democritus, Pliny, and Aesculapius. At times, they have buried persons in swoons, deeming them dead; and by chance, when opening the graves of the newly buried, they have seen that they had revived, and had gnawed their lips and their hands with their teeth, and some had even turned over face downwards. These things plainly confirm that the aforementioned persons were accounted dead and straightway buried, but revived after burial; and because they were unable...
