They reject the established Church and alienate themselves therefrom, yet call themselves *Lusaworch‘akan* [Illuminatorian] Armenians. Were they [truly] Illuminatorian Armenians, it would behoove them to obey his soul-saving commandments, even as he hath delivered [unto us]: "Whosoever become knavish and wander into wicked ways, and by deceit become slanderers, and lead others astray from the orthodox faith and from a holy manner of life . . . and become troublemakers, and instigators of wrath, and disturbers of the simple-minded, they hold the rank of demons, and are heirs with them to eternal torments, whether [among] the bodiless or the corporeal" (*Yachakhapatum*, Homily V).
If, indeed, the Holy Scriptures decisively number among the lawless, among the disobedient unto Divine commandments, and among the ungodly those who dishonor their bodily parents, that is to say, their father and mother (Exod. xxi. 15, 17; Mark vii. 10; 1 Tim. i. 9), how much more, then, those who dishonor their spiritual parents? Wherefore, by the Divine commandments we are bound to honor and venerate our Spiritual Mother, the Holy Church, obeying her in all things; in whom, having received the grace of spiritual rebirth through sanctifying baptism in the name of the All-Holy Trinity, we have been called unto adoption by God the Father Almighty, whereby also, being ranked into the gracious brotherhood of the Son of God, our Savior Jesus, we are called a spiritual temple of the Holy Spirit of God.
Therefore I also, bearing in mind the word of Solomon the wise, "Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer" [cf. Prov. xxviii. 24], entreat the trueborn sons of our Holy Church to remember and read the spirit-breathed words of our angelic holy vardapet, Grigor Narekats‘i; who, after many doctrinal teachings, in [his] Commentary on the Song of Songs of Solomon, upon this text, "My dove . . . is but one," etc., beginneth to teach thus: "For though the saints are not one in glory, yet are they one offspring of the Holy Church, and from this Church they are translated into the one Church—into the Jerusalem above. For this reason it is necessary to love the Church more than the parents of the flesh, by reason of [her] spiritual parentage. For as the spirit is greater than the body, so also is the mother of the spirit [greater] than the mother of the flesh. Now, just as those who are alienated from the milk and breasts of their mother taste of death, even so also they who [are alienated] from the Church and..."
