[the] dissolver of turmoil and giver of peace . . . : Holy love, an incorruptible possession of souls and bodies, for those who possess it always are in the living grace of Christ, adorned with all-profitable beatitudes unto the praise of God’s glory. Love, the good tidings of living hope, the disperser of afflictions and griefs, and the dissolver of all cruel things that come upon [us], which wage war against the arenas of virtue. Holy love is a peacemaking angel, which repels wrath, and dissolves rancor, and casts out envy, and abases evil. Holy love is a delightful vineyard, which, through the wine of the grape, awakens the heart and the senses from the intrusions of sorrow, and makes [one] joyful in the will of the Lord. Holy love is a fruitful olive tree in the heart of the well-disposed, directing the olive [oil] unto the illumination of noetic things, and unto the anointing of the blessed members for cheerfulness. Holy love is the orderer of spiritual ranks, and the steward of bodily conducts, which binds together, and does not allow the common good to be divided and dissolved. Holy love is the key to the paradise of life, which dispenses life, and [is] the distributor of the treasures of God's unseen graces into holy souls, and the restrainer of cruel ways and the adversary of those who love sin. And all the arts of virtue are adorned through love unto holiness and righteousness. And through it they display the contest of their excellence, which is the driver away of evil and the encourager of good things, the helper of those who love God, and the destroyer of the crafty and of those who love sin. And holy love, mingled with faith and with [charity], displays itself in the conduct of piety, and by their communion with one another makes manifest the luminous orders. For the authors of virtues shall be crowned with radiant crowns in the sweet care of the Heavenly Father, and they shall enjoy His endless and ineffable beatitudes. For he who possesses the care of love with holiness toward all, [both] those afar off and those near, toward soul and body, with all truth and the beatitude of holy love, being blessed by the All-Holy Trinity, is crowned and honored, and with everlasting joy delights in His endless and incomparable good things” (*Yajakhapatum*, Homily XI).
