[... to] say: even if I have received the gifts of prophecy from the Spirit of God, and prophesy concerning the mysteries of God and all things that are to come to pass in the world, whereby I might be able ever to work wonders, yet hold back from brotherly love, I am by no means found pleasing before God, nor am I even worthy of eternal beatitude and the glory of the kingdom of heaven, [and] I squander the grace of apostleship in vain. “And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing” (1 Cor. 13:1, 2, 3). That is to say: if I give all my substance entirely, and not merely a portion thereof, to the poor, and moreover willingly take upon myself diverse mortal torments for the confession of faith, and show forth [myself] as a martyr, yet have not love, it profiteth me nothing; that is, I gain nothing from the divine glory of the kingdom of heaven, and find no benefit from the graces of the redemption of Jesus Christ. I know that the right-minded members of this beloved nation—the faithful and true sons of our holy father Grigor Lusaworichʻ—have the right to say unto me: "All that and diverse other true doctrines did that very same great Patriarch, the Illuminator of our souls, teach us; wherefore we also, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, hold them treasured in [our] hearts, and strive to impress them unforgettably upon our minds, and to fulfill in deed that very thing which he preached unto us thus: 'Whosoever abideth in that love which is in Christ, who redeemed creation and took away the enmity from the midst—let us now be imitators of His greatness, and gain the good and [our] brethren, and exchange our goods for their needs, and our life for their death; that we may become heirs of His dominion, and a living habitation of His will, and partakers of His wondrous love, and sharers in His glorified glory. Holy love is the mother of health, and of spotless purity, and of blamelessness, which careth for and exhorteth unto virtues, and prepareth [us] for every good work. Love is the fountain of all good things, which watereth holy souls, and is the pledge of all beatitudes, and the dispenser of the greatness of God's gifts. Love is the outpouring of the benefits of Christ, and the adorner in His unspeakable graces...'"
