But the insolent [person] does not desire to preserve human honor and inherit a good name; rather, like an unreasoning beast, he only looks to eat and to live. And by disorderly conduct he brings ill repute upon himself, and cares not—nay rather, he considers it a boast unto himself, which is a plain sign of his remaining in wickedness and not turning unto goodness. 6. The modest [person] associates with reputable companions, whereby he himself also becometh reputable; because he observeth by what deed they have become possessors of a good name: he also doth that which they have done, and gaineth a good name. But the insolent [person], by consorting with unprofitable ones like unto himself, learneth even the wickedness he knew not, and becometh more diseased, vicious, and wicked; and he can never have a good name. Therefore, well-disposed children must flee from vicious and ill-reputed companions, and [cleave] unto those who are virtuous and reputable...
