CHAPTER I: Rules for Children Going to School.

1. When you rise from sleep in the morning, wash your face and cross yourselves, saying: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." If any of you have a command from the schoolmaster to go to church, go without sloth, and pray with devotion; and if any of you do not [have such a command], go with modesty to the schoolhouse. Do not loiter hither and thither; do not stand before the houses [and] shops. 2. When you enter the schoolhouse, your faces, your mouths, and your hands must be washed and clean, and your nails pared. And as is the custom, pay deference to the schoolmaster by bowing [your] head, and take your seats. But if some necessary matter should occur, and you should happen to arrive late to the schoolhouse, recount the true cause to the schoolmaster. 3. At the time when the morning prayer is being said...
