When the All-Benevolent God created man, He gave him an immortal soul, a rational intellect, and free will, so that with [his] rational intellect he might know good and evil, [and] discern the profitable from the harmful; and by [his] free will he might keep away from evil and harm, and do what is good and profitable; and with [his] immortal soul inherit forever and ever the reward of his good works, which is the beatific life and the Kingdom [of Heaven].
